NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) -- Officials say a revised state law allows parents of stillborn infants to obtain a birth certificate, a change that gives some of them a sense of peace.

The law says the certificates must be given to parents upon their request.

They say "certificate of birth resulting in stillbirth" and includes a place for the infant's name.

New Castle residents Pat and John Guglielmi had a stillborn infant.

Pat Guglielmi says the birth certificate is only a piece of paper, but it validates the period of time that a mother carries a child.

She says it's just another piece that helps parents with closure and helps them move on to the next step.
